KPMG IT Service OOD is an IT service provider with a mission to digitalize the core business of KPMG IT Service GmbH and KPMG AG in Germany and their clients across the globe. We employ around 200 people in Sofia and deliver the full spectrum of IT services to our clients, including Software Engineering, Application & Platform Operations, Infrastructure and Cloud, Digital Compliance and Valuation of Financial Instruments.
Our Applications Unit is securing the stable operation, application support and ongoing development of approximately 300 applications for KPMG Germany.
As a Senior SharePoint Core Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, maintaining, and evolving the infrastructure that supports customer-facing and internal applications and services built on top of Microsoft technology stack, with a primary focus on SharePoint. As part of a platform operations team, you will build and maintain robust, secure, and scalable platform services and server environments.
This role fits best with the candidates who combine expertise in SharePoint Server, Windows Server, SQL Server, and network infrastructure and requires close collaboration with infrastructure, platform, and solution architects, DevOps teams, data center infrastructure and networking teams, as well as project managers and external vendors, to drive excellence in the collaboration and data management space.
As a Senior SharePoint Core Engineer, your focus will be to:
- Maintain and evolve smaller to larger enterprise Windows Server infrastructures.
- Maintain and evolve smaller to larger enterprise SharePoint Server farms.
- Participate in planning and execution of migrations, upgrades, and environment changes.
- Provide infrastructure advisory support to projects.
- Ensure compliance with infrastructure standards for platforms & applications (e.g., monitoring, reporting, backup & restore, archiving, networking, access management, configuration & installation).
- Collaborate with Microsoft and other third-party vendors to align on product roadmaps and implement changes to KPMG environments.
- Perform monthly zero downtime patching & update operations.
- Participate in escalation management and troubleshooting of complex infrastructure issues (e.g., SQL bottlenecks, search performance and index freshness).
- Participate in effort, timeline, and budget estimations for platform and infrastructure-related project components.
- Implement enterprise-grade disaster recovery and high availability solutions.
- Participate in infrastructure capacity planning and growth forecasting.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and networking teams to implement advanced network configurations, load balancing, DNS, and CDN integrations.
- Implement security hardening practices, including privileged account management, certificate management, secure authentication.
- Maintain and extend custom monitoring and alerting solutions to ensure stable operations of platforms and applications; gather analytical and telemetry data from applications.
- Implement and maintain automation for SharePoint infrastructure, including pipelines, automated patching, automated password management.
- Contribute to department infrastructure and architecture standards.
- Participate in improvement initiatives in infrastructure performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
What you bring in:
- Several years of experience in designing and implementing SharePoint infrastructure solutions.
- Deep understanding of SharePoint infrastructure design and typical operational processes.
- Experience with patch management for SharePoint Cumulative Updates (CUs), Service Packs, and Windows Server; experience with zero downtime patching is a plus.
- Proficiency with SharePoint administrative tooling (e.g., Health Analyzer, ULS log viewer, Event Viewer, Performance Monitor, SCOM).
- Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, particularly data management, administration, troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting, specifically for configuration, reporting, data management, and automation of operational activities.
- Understanding and hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware ESX) and Windows Server environments.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, hybrid identities; knowledge of SSO solutions, authentication protocols and flows (e.g., Kerberos, SAML, OAuth, OIDC) is a plus.
- Knowledge of enterprise-grade backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions for SharePoint and SQL Server.
- Familiarity with SQL Server Always On, Windows Failover Clustering.
- Fluency in English (German is a strong advantage).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work independently.
- Proven ability to work across cross-functional teams and communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; presentation skills are a plus.
- Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing mindset, especially around complex infrastructure topics.
- Willingness to travel for occasional business trips.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Microsoft cloud platforms and services: Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Azure.
- Experience in business intelligence & reporting using Microsoft SQL Server, Power BI.
- Experience with Microsoft Desired State Configuration.
- Experience implementing and evolving role-based access control (RBAC) and auditing mechanisms.
- Knowledge of network infrastructure components such as DNS, SSL/TLS, reverse proxies, and load balancers (e.g., F5, NGINX).
- Understanding of data governance, rights management, and compliance policies in SharePoint environments.
- Hands-on experience with designing and implementing backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions for SharePoint and SQL Server.
- Experience with deployment, configuration, and usage of Elastic Stack.
- Understanding of DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise).
- Certifications in SharePoint, Windows Server, SQL Server, Microsoft 365, Azure, or related technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related STEM field.
